This one-day workshop is hosted by the Penobscot Nation Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in partnership with the Northeast Coastal Acidification Network (NECAN). The workshop will cover the basics of ocean acidification (OA), its impacts on species of interest in the Northeast, and current tools available to support decision-making. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for members of the fishing community to share recommendations and comments that can help inform the Penobscot Nation DNR’s efforts. Attendees will have the opportunity to work directly with ocean acidification experts, increase their understanding of OA, and contribute to discussions about effective approaches for monitoring ocean acidification.

Workshop Goals:

  1. To convene a focus group of Penobscot fishermen to explore regional and local priorities and gaps in ocean acidification monitoring, modeling, and data tools
  2. Develop collaborative strategies to validate and ground-truth biological ocean acidification experiments in real-world fishing environments through partnerships with fishermen.
